The One and Only Ivan is about a sad gorilla who lives in a circus, with no other's of his species.
His only friends are the other different animals like the elephants. When another new animal comes in, a baby elephant, he feels jealous because of his fame being stolen. The baby elephant later on becomes the best friend of Ivan when the previous elephant dies. Ivan tries to escape the zoo to save his now best friend, Ruby the baby elephant and all the other creatures.
He lures the customers and shows them what he wants. The customers and viewers all campaign to set all the creatures into a reserve. The owner grieves in parting with Ivan, his best companion, but lets them all go in the end. There are two versions, the movie and book version.
